Today, SpeakerBook will take a deep dive into the RX product Kyprolis from Amgen. Kyprolis is a prescription medication used to treat people who have received one to three previous treatments for multiple myeloma.
Now that we have an understanding of what Kyprolis does, let's take a look at Amgen's most recent earnings report.
Yahoo finance announced that Kyprolis recorded sales of $253 million, in the second-quarter 2020 earnings report for Amgen. Kyprolis sales were down 5% year over year, hurt by lower volumes due to reduced multiple myeloma patient visits to doctors.
The financial reports Kyprolis as one of its top RX products with year over year growth for Amgen. Understanding the scale and distribution network of any RX product is a massive undertaking.
Amgen, like all other pharmaceutical companies, employs sales reps and teams of people to interact with hospitals and institutions all over the country. In 2013, the government implemented a mandate called the Sunshine Act that was used to record every interaction between a Pharma manufacturer and the Key Opinion Leader (KOL) they interacted with at any hospital or institution.
This means that all of Amgen's Kyprolis interactions with KOLs are all recorded by law and available for public record. The 2019 Sunshine Act Data is available to the public, but the amount of data recorded is overwhelming and can be extremely hard to navigate. There are tools to search one single KOL’s name, but there is no product that allows you to search a specific RX product category and targeted sales territory to locate additional KOLs.
You can use SpeakerBook to search for new KOLs. In this example, I’m new to Pharma sales and am looking to better understand Kyprolis. The goal is to find new KOLs in California that are related to treatments for multiple myeloma.
Let's use SpeakerBook to search for the product Kyprolis in the state of California.
